Every year we organise a full programme of outings to interesting sites in Wiltshire or neighbouring counties, where the leader and members share their knowledge of plants and their habitats. Please car share if possible to all of our meetings.

Somerford Common

Join us to explore Somerford Common, a superb example of a North Wiltshire mixed woodland. Sitting in the clay vale of Minety, north of Royal Wootton Bassett, its slightly acidic soils and mixture of deciduous and coniferous habitats are ideal for a wide range of plants, including ferns and mosses.
Although better known for its rare butterflies, such as the White Admiral and Brown Hairstreak, some plant species to look out for include Pepper-saxifrage Silaum silaus, Devil’s-bit Scabious Succisa pratensis, Sneezewort Achillea ptarmica, Saw-wort Serratula tinctoria, Velvet Bent Agrostis canina and Slender St. John’s-wort Hypericum pulchrum.
